Here at Oakley Green Thatcham, our show site after 14 years was beginning to look a little tired and dated, so we took the decision to completely refurbish all of the five units that are on show!
Read on to learn all about the work we did, and about our egg-citing Easter open weekend!
Oakley Green Thatcham Refurbishment Work
We started with one conservatory at a time – dismantling the old glass roof, and then removing the wall frames with their out of date windows and doors, their sealed units clearly not able to perform as they are required to do, today.
We then took up the dated flooring, removed the odd base wall, built a brick pier here and there and then… we were ready to rebuild!
Aluminium Anthracite grey Bi-Folding doors went in on two sides giving the option of totally opening up the space in spring and summer, with toughened glass A plus rated double glazed sealed units.
Then the Anthracite grey uPVC wall frames were installed, again with A plus rated double glazed sealed units.
Ultraframe Roof
Now for the game changer: we installed an Ultraframe Livinroof with Activ Sunshade Blue self- cleaning toughened glass roof, with a pelmet on the inside to be insulated and plastered. After the roof, we proceeded to install low voltage downlighters, then made the building good inside and out – ready for people to browse.
The remaining units still to be updated went through much the same procedure, except we installed the latest Ultraframe tiled roofs with roof lights, allowing the natural light to flood in.
The biggest unit on the site was a 6m x 4m double hipped Edwardian conservatory with dated fenestration and a glass roof, that made it overheat in the summer and was too cold in the winter, so we decided on a showstopper!
We have rebuilt it as a traditional Orangery using Gluelam Beams for the construction of the flat roof, which is fully insulated and has an Ultraframe Lantern rising from it; this is one of the most popular conversions that we are asked for.
We installed French Doors and Patio Doors and new casement windows, A plus rated toughened glass double glazed throughout. We plastered the new ceiling pelmet, installed all the lighting, new flooring, television and modern fireplace.
Each of the units have been furnished differently to illustrate what a wonderful new space can be created.
There are French doors and Patio doors, Bi Folding doors and the new Flush Sash windows. Deceuninck casement windows with fanlights are all double glazed, A plus rated and very much what our customers are having installed right now.
